Jerry Lee DeOrnellas, 65, of rural Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, November 27, 2016, at his residence.

He was born July 8, 1951 in Jacksonville, the son of Andrew Russell and Ellen Eva Smay DeOrnellas.  He married his high school sweetheart, Dianna “Lynn” Spurling on January 31, 1969 in Bowling Green, MO and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Shirley Ann DeLong of Hillsboro and Angel Lynn Cambridge (husband, Matt) of Franklin; six grandchildren, Lauren, Blake, Abi, Ben, Jacob, and Quentin; two great granddaughters, Olivia and Ella; three brothers, Jim DeOrnellas (wife, Judy) of Fairfield, IA, John DeOrnellas (wife, Norma) of Murrayville, and George DeOrnellas (wife, Barb) of Jacksonville; a sister, June Lair (husband, Gene) of Forest City; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Ann DeOrnellas; and a brother, Lloyd Joseph “Joey” DeOrnellas and his wife, Sharon.

Jerry was a skilled welder, pipefitter, fabricator, and grain handler who shared his talents with Universal Iron Works in Houma, LA for many years.  He worked on a variety of boats and ships in dry dock to ensure their seaworthiness.  Jerry returned to the Jacksonville area where he has worked the past 28 years in multiple locations for Consolidated Grain & Barge.  Known for his dependability and dedication, Jerry was respected by all for his strong and accountable work ethic.

In his spare time, Jerry loved to work in his garden and in his landscaping at home.  He was an avid bird watcher and a consummate traveller.  A black powder enthusiast, he enjoyed target shooting competitions.  His favorite times were those spent with family, especially special adventures with his grandchildren.
