Jerry Lee Cassman, 84, of Lafayette, passed peacefully at home on December 13, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born August 26, 1937, in Lafayette, the son of the late Harry E. and Velma F. (Barrett) Cassman.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Josephine “Jo” M. (Fairchild) Cassman, daughter Nicole Gebhardt (husband Eric) and stepson Greg Hatfield (wife Brenda). Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jacob (wife Brianna) Hatfield, Jessica (husband John) Ganser, and Justin Hatfield, Lauren, and Sarah Gebhardt, and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Hoke, brother Gene Cassman, a granddaughter, and a great grandson.
Jerry graduated from Lafayette Jefferson H.S. in 1955 and joined the United States Air Force and served as a communications technician until 1959. After his military service, Jerry joined Smith Office Equipment where he worked for over 40 years. He was an active member of Victory Christian Center and a bible study group in Williamsport, Ind. where he nurtured his relationship with God among a community of believers and friends.
Jerry will be remembered for his friendly nature, sense of humor, and his MacGyver-like technical skills. He loved planes, trains, and automobiles, and he rarely encountered a problem he couldn’t solve.
