Jerry Joe Garcia, 79 of Ogallala, passed away on March 19,2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was born to Telesforo and Genevieve (Sawyer) Garcia on November 21, 1942 in Roscoe, Nebraska, he attended Roscoe and Ogallala public schools.

 Jerry enlisted in the Army on July 8, 1964 until his honorable discharge June 30, 1966 during his enlistment he served valiantly in the Vietnam war where he was awarded Expert Rifleman, Combat Infantryman’s badge, Vietnam service medal, National Defense service medal and the Bronze Star.

When Jerry returned home, he married Darlene Lay and they had two wonderful sons; Tom and Jeff. Jerry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a Section Foreman until his retirement in 2006.

He is survived by his wife Darlene Garcia, Sons Tom Garcia and Jeff (Sherri) Garcia; his sister Carlene (Matt) Whitlock;  his Grandsons Gavin and Garrett Garcia and his best friend and dog, Pepper and many Nieces and Nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Linda, Clofus, and Lois and brothers Richard, Dick and John.

 

 

 

 

A Memorial has been established in Jerry’s memory for the Ogallala High school Trap team.
