Mr. Jerry Hoffner, 90, of Stratford died Thursday August 30, 2012 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the husband of Irma (Feigenbaum) Hoffner.
Mr. Hoffner was born October 8, 1921 in New York, NY the son of the late David and Pauline (Anfang) Hoffner. A decorated veteran of the USArmy, he was an infantry man that served our country during World War II in Germany, France and Holland. He was the sole survivor of his platoon and said his goal was to live on for the other men who died. He carried on for them. He was the recipient of a purple heart with oak leaf cluster, a bronze star, the combat infantryman badge and good conduct medal.
Mr. Hoffner was the owner of a shoe store in Stamford for many years. Prior to owning his own store, he was the manager of the Salvatore Ferragamo Shoe Salon on Park Ave. in Manhattan.
He was very proud of his granddaughters’ accomplishments. Specifically, Rachel’s glorious study at UMASS Amherst and Alyssa’s graduation from law school.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter, Peri Hoffner Swaniger and her husband Joseph, a sister, Fay Schwartz and 2 granddaughters, Alyssa and Rachel Swaniger.
