Jerry Frederiksen, age 65, of Livermore left this world on Saturday, October 26, 2013 after fighting a battle with cancer for a year. Jerry was born on November 17, 1947 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and was the third son of twelve children of the late Ivan and Elsie (Erdmann) Frederiksen. Jerry attended Twin Rivers Community Schools and graduated in 1965. After high school, he joined the United States Navy in 1966, serving four years for our country. He served during the Vietnam War and was aboard three carriers: U.S. Pine Island, U.S.S. Ticonderoga, U.S.S. Jason AR-8 which was “Boots on Ground” with his older brother Richard. After serving his country Jerry attended college in California for a short time when he decided to go back home and be with his parents. Jerry was an avid member of the VFW. He held many positions: the State Commander for Iowa from 1997-98, Commander of post #7083 in Bradgate and Post Commander for the Cooties. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, cooking, baking, making popcorn in his old pan, growing sweet corn and attending family functions. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Terry Lynn and Kenneth Ray Frederiksen; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Survivors include brothers, Larry (Jennie) of Blue Springs, MS, Richard (Rita) of La Mirada, CA, Tommy (Donna) of Livermore, Randy (Mary) of Gilmore City, Ivan (Carolyn) of Livermore and Jimmy of New Braunfels, TX; sisters, Sharon (Ron) Dudo of Marion, TX, Connie (Ronnie) Powell of Bluewell, WV and Penni (Alex) Welter of The Woodlands, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
