Jerry D. Rhoads, aged 72 of Fairmount, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Marion General Hospital.

Jerry was born in Marion, Indiana to the late Lawrence and Maxine (Eiber) Rhoads on August 5, 1942. He was a 1960 graduate of Fairmount High School and graduated with a B.A. from Ball State University in 1964. After graduating from BSU, he worked at Arthur Anderson Accounting, located on Monument circle in Indianapolis. Jerry always remembered the strict dress code of a top hat and three-piece suit, as well as frequent business trips to Chicago. After serving in the United States Army from 1967-68, Jerry worked at General Motors in Marion, retiring in 1998. He worked in accounting and turned down many promotions, which would have required him to move, in order to stay in his beloved Fairmount near friends and family.

He was an avid golfer, golfing every day for many years before eventually taking the weekends off to let the working man play. During his golfing days, he shot two hole-in-ones and was a former member of the Elks, Arbor Trace, Walnut Creek and Shady Hills golf courses. In addition to golfing, Jerry enjoyed his grandsons; attending swim meets and watching them show horses at the Johnson County 4-H Fair. He also enjoyed seeing old friends at 1960 Class Reunions and spending his winters in Florida walking the beach. Most of all, Jerry was known for his vibrant personality and his impeccable appearance. He was a classy and sharp dressed man, which carried over to his well groomed and manicured lawn.

Jerry is survived by one daughter, Dana (Eric) Brock of Morgantown, IN; one sister, Janet Rhoads of Fairmount; three grandsons, Levi Brock of Bloomington, IN, Wyeth and Tucker Brock of Morgantown, IN; one niece, Terrie (Bob)Bishir of Columbia City, IN; two great-nephews, Josh (Nicole) Bishir of South Whitley, IN and Chris (Stephanie) Bishir of Fort Wayne, IN. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Rhoads; brother Ronald Rhoads; nieces Lori and Lisa Rhoads; former wives, Roberta (Hipskind) Rhoads and Teresa Marie (Petrey) Rhoads; former in-laws, Harold and Bonnie Hipskind and Lou and Annette Petrey.
