Jerry D. Pontius, 86, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at IU Health.

He was born February 17, 1935, in Athens, Indiana, to the late Raymond and Pearl Quaintance Pontius.

He was a 1953 graduate of Akron High school, attended Indiana University and was a Marine Corps veteran.

Jerry worked and retired from Landis & Gyr after 25 years of service. Once an intense IU Hoosiers basketball fan, especially during the Coach Knight years, he quickly became a Boilermaker fan, after taking a position in the Purdue residence halls system. He enjoyed all his time on the golf course with his favorite foursome and participated in many golf tournaments and benefits. Jerry was also a frequent player/purchaser of lottery scratch-off tickets and was even lucky enough to be a contestant on the Hoosier Millionaire show, making it to the final round! Through the years he loved and was loved by several schnauzers, chocolate labs and one special cat! And although Jerry raised many a glass or a bottle in his younger days with family, friends, and strangers, he was very proud but humble, to celebrate his 40th year of sobriety last July.

He is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Joanne Pontius, stepdaughter, Kristie (Dan) Dowell, daughter-in-law, Susan White and his grandchildren, Averie (Tyler) Tigges, MD., Matthew White and great granddaughter, Margot Tigges.

Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his stepson, Ronald E. White.
