Jerrell Lewis Harper
June 11, 1951 – October 2, 2022
Jerrell Lewis Harper of Sheridan, Arkansas was born on June 11, 1951 in Sheridan. He was the son of the late Coy Harper and Christine Leona Brooks.
Jerrell passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Little Rock at the age of 71.
He was of the Pentecostal Faith and within the last year, really built his relationship with the Lord. He was baptized by his brother, Jim Baker, at Jenkins Ferry a few months ago and he and his family were incredibly proud of him. He enjoyed serving as the President of Friends of Jenkins Ferry Battlefield. History was so important to him and was very vocal about “keeping history alive.” Jerrell loved to educate people about history, especially children, and give tours of the battlefield. From 1970-1971, he served in the United States Army as a door gunner on a helicopter in Vietnam.
Jerrell was a man of many hobbies but one of his favorites began in the 70’s when he started auto racing. Building race cars and going racing was something he loved, win or lose. If he wasn’t racing, he was either watching NASCAR, the history channel or working on something in his shop. He was also a licensed home builder.
Jerrell loved a good joke and telling stories whether they were true or not. “Ain’t nothing a coke and a little debbie can’t fix.” as well as “If you’re scared, go fast.” were some of his favorite sayings. Jerrell will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gary Harper and Donnie Harper; sister, Rudy Smith and his step-mother, Wilma Ashcraft.
Loved ones left behind include his wife of 49 years, Alberta Wilson Harper of Sheridan; son, Lewis Allen Harper of Sheridan; daughters, Dena Coleman-Davis (Coy) of Hot Springs, Jessica Harper Wallace (Clint) of Paron; brothers, Jim (Edna) Baker, Chester (Sheree) Harper, Vernon (Shirley) Harper, David (Mary) Harper, Tim (Linda) Reid, Danny Reid; sisters, Brenda (Gary) Newton, Betty Perez, Patsy Varner, Karen Mooney; grandchildren, Blaine, Jasper, Ellie and Liam and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
