Jerome Ketterling, age 77, of Plymouth, formerly of North Dakota, passed away on Thursday, January 20th, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband of Susan M. (Viera) Ketterling. Loving father of Terri Ortegon and her husband Gabriel of Arizona, Bradley Ketterling and his wife Hannah of Washington, Tracy Self of Wyoming, Thomas Santiago and his wife Julianna of West Yarmouth, and Laura Rodriguez and her husband Adam of New York. Jerome is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Born in Mercer North Dakota on April 25, 1944, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Boschee) Ketterling. Jerome’s upbringing made him the man he was. He grew up on a farm, attended class in a one room schoolhouse, and didn’t have electricity until he was 9 years old. On the family farm he grew up working with his father, learning valuable life lessons. He repaired farm equipment, harvested crops and raised livestock until he left home at eighteen to pursue his career as an engineer. His job at Bechtel brought him to Massachusetts and to job opportunities all over the world including, South Africa, the Philippines and Europe. Jerome was an avid history buff who loved traveling with his wife Susan, experiencing new cultures and adventures. When he wasn’t traveling he pursued a passion for carpentry, working on many projects, everything from big home renovations to custom wood boxes for his tools. His wealth of knowledge and storytelling will be missed by his family and friends.
