Jerald E. â??Jerryâ? Agans, 77, of Jacksonville, died Thursday morning, December 18, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born September 2, 1931 in Rushville, the son of Walter and Esther (Blackburn) Agans.

He is survived by one son, Jerald E. (Bridget) Agans, Jr. of Kilbourne; two daughters, Bridget (Bob) Harvey of Kansas City, MO. and Kathy (David) Perryman of Lockport; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, Donald L. (Geraldine) Agans of Savoy. He was preceded in death by one son, John E. Agans; one brother, Walter Agans, Jr.; and one aunt, Florine Blackburn, who raised him following his parentâ??s death.

Mr. Agans was 1949 graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended Illinois College. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and served as a Weapons and Marksmanship Instructor and on the Air Force Drill Team. He was a District supervisor for City Services Oil Co. in Southern Illinois and Missouri, then for Marathon Oil in Jacksonville. He later worked for Carnation, Jacksonville Mental Health and Development Center, and then as the Administrator for Skyview Manor. He was Past Grand Master of Knights of Columbus, a Charter member of AMVETS, a member of American Legion, and past member of Jaycees and U.C.T. Mr. Agans served two years as Chairman of the Democratic Party in Morgan County. He was a nature lover and an avid reader, and enjoyed sports and history.
