STOKES, Jennie “Mert”, Of Kalamazoo. Jennie passed away Sunday afternoon, January 30, 2011. She was born July 25, 1927 in Straight Creek, KY, the daughter of Wiley and Nellie Cowan Liford. On June 1, 1946, Mert was united in marriage to Chester V. Stokes.
Surviving are three children, Pat Bruce Mason of Kalamazoo, Bob Penny Stokes of Augusta, and Tom Stokes of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Rob Tina Mason, Danielle Anderson, Brianna Jeremy Johnson, Andrew Stokes, and Dalton Stokes; five great-grandchildren, Zoe, Parker and Cole Mason, Miles Anderson, and Kellen Johnson; four sisters, Ola Bowman of Speedwell, TN, Gerry Ralph Bargo of Stanwood, MI, Billie Brantley of Knoxville, TN, and Evelyn Howard Burke of Kokomo, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 55 years, Chester; her parents; four brothers, Willis, Henry, Joe and Neal Liford; and one sister, Edna Minton.
