Jeffrey Scott Mehring of Schoolcraft Jeffrey S. Mehring died peacefully in his sleep at home, Friday, January 7, 2011. Born in Cleveland, OH on July 6, 1942, he graduated from Shaker Heights High School and the Ohio State University, receiving his BS and MS in Animal Science then his PhD in Equine Nutrition. Moving to Kalamazoo in 1978, he completed post doctoral work and received his board certification in Toxicology, then worked for the Upjohn Company. Between 1996 and his retirement in 2000, he managed the company’s Stephen Covey 7 Habits leadership program making what he considered one of his most significant contributions to the organization.
A deeply spiritual person, he was an avid outdoorsman spending many hours in the field bird watching, fishing and training his field trial beagles. A mentor to many, he was known for his quiet reserve, sharp wit, and dry sense of humor. He was the beloved husband of Anne Hauserman Mehring formerly of Cleveland Heights, OH for more than 45 years, and dearly loved father of David Scott Mehring and Sarah Elizabeth Mehring both of Cleveland, OH, and John C. Mehring of Schoolcraft. He is survived by his aunt, Mary Mehring; brother, William C. Maryann Mehring; and 3 nieces, Elizabeth Hauserman, Valery Johnson and Karen Perez all of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack G and Harriet Scott Mehring, and sister, Heidi Hale Mehring.
