Jeffery Ray Smith, 55, died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at his residence 18 Southern St, Danville, VA. Mr. Smith was born February 24, 1955 in Danville, VA. to the late George Franklin Smith and Stella Cassidy Smith. In addition to his father, Mr. Smith is predeceased by his first wife Joyce Ellen Scearce Smith and a brother-in-law, Larry Land. Jeffery was married to Janice Mattox Smith. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith. He was also a member of the National Well Drillers Association and owner and operator of Smith’s Well Drilling. Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters Brenda J. Smith and husband Daniel McMillan or Ashville, NC and Michelle Owen and husband Dan Owen of Danville; two sons Neal Mattox Fitzgerald and David Smith of Danville; one sister, Gaye Smith Land of Ringgold, VA; two sisters-in-law, Joan Leonard and husband David of Danville and Teressa Wells and husband Rodney of Chester, VA; one brother-in-law, Mark Scearce and wife Cheryl of Pelham, NC; five brothers, Daniel F. Smith and wife Sheila of Church Hill, TN, George David “Snuffy†Smith of Danville, Jimmy D. Smith and wife Gayle of Danville, Michael Jay Smith and wife Maria of Spring Garden, VA and Gregory D. Smith and wife Nancy of Danville. Mr. Smith is also survived by two grandchildren, Megan Paige Wyatt and Samatha Leigh Owen and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as a fishing buddy, Raymond Johnson.
