Jeanne T. Berndt, 87, of Sawyer, Michigan died Wednesday evening, August 1, 2012 at Jordan’s Life Care Center in Bridgman, Michigan. Jeanne was born November 23, 1924 in Chicago, the daughter of John and Emilie (Dobrowolski) Kaleta. Her family moved to New Troy when she was a child where she attended New Troy High School and worked on the family farm.

Jeanne married Edward J. Berndt at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sawyer on May 26, 1951. Jeanne loved flower gardening and growing food to cook and preserve for her family. She relaxed with crocheting, reading, and bowling. She was the faithful fishing companion and polka partner of her husband, Ed, and she never lost faith in her Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

She adored all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and their many activities. She was a member of the Altar Society at St. Agnes Church and the Wee-Chik American Legion Post #518 Auxiliary in New Troy and the Polish National Alliance, where she served as a Financial Secretary for 32 years.Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Diana (Theodore) Post of St. Joseph, Michigan and Deborah (Richard) Rieth of Three Oaks, Michigan: grandchildren, Wesley, Evan and Jessie Rieth and Tara (Jedediah) Reinhardt; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Avery; and her brother Anthony Kaleta of Buchanan, Michigan.She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 2007 and her granddaughter, Emma Jean Rieth in 1994. Her sisters Josephine Sroka and Stephanie Oles also preceded her in death.
