Jeanette Rose Brooks-Hayes, 80, of Okeechobee, Florida and formerly of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, Atlanta, Georgia, and Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on September 30, 2021. She was born to Lucille and Carter Brooks on November 26, 1940 in Danville, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Brooks-Murphy, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; her father, Carter Brooks, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; and her sister, Judy Brooks-Shaffer.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Hayes, of Okeechobee, Florida; her children, Jeff Barrie (Mary), Jan Edwards (Ted Carter), and Jill Hamilton (Sam), all of Indianapolis, Indiana; stepchildren, Wes Hayes, III (Sharon), of Oregon, Jason Hayes, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Ton Poole (Chris), of Tallahassee, Florida; brothers, John Brooks (Marilyn), of Gilbertsville, Kentucky and Butch Brooks (Joanie), of Greeley, Colorado; grandsons, Eric Edwards (Calley), Brian Edwards (Jessica), Aaron Edwards, Skyler Hamilton, James Hamilton, Hank Hamilton, Tim Barrie (Aeron), and Andy Barrie (Kathryn); step-grandchildren, Justin Hayes, Joshua Poole, and Taylor Poole; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Jeanette grew up in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and attended Lawrenceville High School. She married James Barrie and moved to Indianapolis where she resided for 25 years and raised her family. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she enjoyed a very successful career in sales. It was in Atlanta that she met Wesley Hayes and married him in 2007. They retired and moved to Gilbertsville, Kentucky.

They were active in their church St. Pious X Catholic Church of Calvert City, Kentucky. Jeanette also was a member of the High Steppin Red Hats of Marshall County, Kentucky, and the Republican Women’s Club of Benton, Kentucky. They spent several years coming to Okeechobee as snowbirds where she enjoyed playing golf participated in several leagues. She also enjoyed fishing, playing nickels, reading, and spending time with her friends.
