Jean Y. Gill, 81, of Jacksonville, died Monday, August 29, 2011, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Kevin Six. She was born May 12, 1930, in Alton, the daughter of Thomas and Pearl Watkins Notson. She married Robert H. Gill, Sr., on Sept. 9, 1950, in East Alton, and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1995.

She is survived by five children, Bob (Joyce) Gill, Jr. of Jacksonville, Sharon Gill (partner, Larry Posanka) of Golden, CO, Donna (Mike) Schneider and Pam (Kevin) Six, both of Jacksonville, and Becky (Kent) Janssen of Canton; ten grandchildren, Jason and Cody Gill, Jewell Maul, Stacy English, 1LT Mike Hawks, James, John and Jennifer Welch, and Lauren and Alyssa Janssen; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Notson of Alton.

Mrs. Gill was a 1948 graduate of Alton High School. She worked many years at the Jacksonville A&P Grocery Store. Following retirement, she worked at Midland Farm & Home Supply, Newell’s, and Sparrow Corporation. She was a member of the Emblem Club, Women of the Moose, and received the 2010 Grotto Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of her organizing the desserts for various activities throughout the years. Through the Emblem Club, she was proud to assist at the Morgan/Scott Volunteer Clinic and had also been active with the Toys for Tots program. Jean and her husband were members of the Coachman Campers Club. She loved her annual Spoon River trip with Pam, Sharon, and Becky. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spoiling her poodle, Rascal. She was well known for her warm smile.
