Jean M. Schaller, 86, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013 at Hilltop on Pepper Assisted Living with Jack, her loving husband, at her side.
Jean was born in Schenectady, New York on July 18, 1926 to Thomas and Arial (Spooner) Millard. Her family moved to Western Springs, Illinois where Jean graduated from Lyons Township High School. Jean attended University of Indiana before receiving a Registered Nursing Degree from Presbyterian St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Chicago. She completed post-graduate studies at Cook County Hospital. Jean married Dr. John W. Schaller on July 16, 1950, and followed him through his Army and Air Force career. They settled in Wisconsin Rapids in 1954. The couple was blessed with 62 years of marriage and four children.
Jean earned a private pilot license and was a member of the Rapids Flying Club. She loved to paint, served as PTA president, was a member of a bridge club and a book club, and enjoyed playing golf.
As a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, Jean taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and belonged to Women’s Fellowship. She served as camp nurse at the UCC Pilgrim Camp in Green Lake.
Jean is survived by her husband, Dr. Jack Schaller; three children: Bill (JaNielle), Rochester, MN; Wendy Crawford (Peter), Waukesha; and Ted (Judy), Naperville, IL. She is also survived by seven grandsons and four great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Cindy; and two sisters, Janet and Joan.
