Jean Reid Acker, 86

Troy Jean Reid Acker, 86, of Burdett Avenue, died Saturday at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center Troy, after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Dr. John H. and Emily Niven Reid and wife of the late Albert A. Acker. She had resided in Troy and Averill Park and at 55 upon marrying Albert moved to Valley Falls. She had resided in the Eddy for the past 7 years and was educated at Miss Thiessen’s School in Troy, Emma Willard School , Smith College where she earned her Bachelors degree and the State University of New York at Albany where she received her Masters degree.

Mrs. Acker was employed by John L. Thompson in Troy for several years and later by the New York State Department of Commerce at the State Library for 20 years retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Troy Women’s Club, Ilium Literary Club, Business and Professional Women, Troy Chromatic Concerts, Valley Falls Methodist Church and Church of the Covenant in Averill Park.

Survivors include her sister Eleanor Reid of Troy; a sister-in-law Kathleen Reid of Troy; her nieces and nephews Mary Ellen Wollner and husband John of Baltimore, John H. Reid and Sandra of Laramie, WY, Dr. William M. Reid and wife Kathleen of Salisbury, MD, Kathleen Labbate and husband William of Old Forge, Paul E. Reid and wife Rita of Ballston Spa, Robert F. Reid and wife Kathleen of Delmar and Martin T. Reid and wife Caitlin of Sand Lake and 10 great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers Dr. John H. Reid Jr. and Dr. Robert F. Reid.
