Jean Lyons, 73, of LaSalle, died at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Spring Valley Nursing Center. Mrs. Lyons was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Peru, to Joseph and Katherine (Solomon) Filipiak.
She was raised by her uncle and aunt, James and Emma Vallas. She was a cook at several local restaurants. She married Clinton John Lyons Sr. on Oct. 11, 1957, in Indiana. She was a member of St. Patricks Church in LaSalle and was a Girl Scout leader and a Boy Scout leader for many years. She was involved with Mother Goose Gardens for many years and owned all the animals and operated the pony rides.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Cathy Lyons of Oglesby and Cindy (Tom) Witczak of Peru; 3 sons, Clinton John Lyons Jr. of LaSalle, Cody Lyons of Lostant, and Richard Whittington of LaSalle; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Rita Jackson of LaSalle; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 28, 1983; 1 sister, Delores Lindenmier; and 1 granddaughter, Samantha Duck on June 16, 2006.
