Jean Kitchell Hunter, 94, died early in the morning of Friday, September 22, 2017, at WoodBridge Health Campus, Logansport.

She was born on January 4, 1923, in a farmhouse near Lincoln, Indiana.   She was the daughter of Alvin D. and Nora B. Kitchell and the younger sister of William D. Kitchell and Robert B. Kitchell.  Her parents operated the general store and post office in Lincoln, until her father’s death in 1936, when the family moved to Logansport.

Jean graduated from Logansport High School in 1941 and immediately began work at John I. Shafer Lumber Company.   She worked for Shafer, which later became Cole Hardwood Inc., for 45 years retiring in 1986.   Mr. Shafer was a wonderful mentor to Jean.   Milt and Jean Cole, similarly, were steadfast colleagues, friends and employer in Jean’s later working years.

She is survived by her son, Harry F. McNaught (Sarah); granddaughter, Mary M. Yonkman (Ryan); grandson, John D. McNaught (Becky); great granddaughters, Nora E. Yonkman and Anna Jean Yonkman; and nephews, Richard Kitchell (LouAnn), David Kitchell (Linda) of Kokomo and David Kitchell (Julie) of Logansport.   Jean is also survived by her stepson, Jere E. Hunter, and step-granddaughter, Nicole M. Hunter, and step-grandson, Justin J. Hunter.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Hunter; son, Michael J. McNaught; brothers, William Kitchell and Robert Kitchell; niece, Carolyn McClure and nephew, William Kitchell, Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff of WoodBridge Health Campus for their wonderful care of Jean these past three years and for their appreciation of her sense of humor and desire to keep on the move.    Jean enjoyed and appreciated her years living at WoodBridge.
