Jean Bernard Benoit was born on April 20, 1980, in Bélance to
Christian Benoit and Derilia Joseph. He is known to his family
and friends as Bernard. He is the 2 of his parent’s five children
and is the eldest boy. He attended school at L’ecole Nationale in
Belance and then transferred into L’ecole Nationale in Port au
Prince. While maturing, Bernard would always be found being a
student in every facet of his life. When in the presence of
professionals, he would watch them work until he understood
their work. He would ask questions and observe with hopes of
duplicating the work when the need arose.
Bernard had always been in the proximity of Esther Pierre-
Louis, the woman who would become his wife. Bernard’s eldest
sister, Christianne, is the Godmother of one of Esther’s sisters,
which allowed them to mature alongside one another. Esther
would be a great friend due to this connection until 2005, when
the two became romantically involved. Before marrying his
beloved wife. He fathered his eldest child, Christ Anaya, in 2011.
In search of a better life, he emigrated from Haiti to The United
States on July 31, 2012, where he would live with his father and
begin working towards said life. Less than a year later, Bernard
would return to Port Au Prince, to marry his beloved Esther on
June 26, 2013. Following their marriage, the couple began their
lives together in Irvington, NJ. They would become the parents
of another daughter, Lisa Bianca.
Upon settling together in Irvington, they would be active
community members. This would afford Bernard to model his
kindhearted soul and demonstrate that he would give you
anything he could offer. Bernard would often be found telling
jokes and laughing with his friends and family, even when life’s
unfortunate moments arose. Bernard’s keen love for people was
witnessed most through his ability to laugh with others. He
knew how to sit and be present with his people while
maintaining a reason to smile and laugh. His infectious laugh
will be remembered by many.
He will be remembered by his parents, his siblings: Christianne, Christella,
Chrismene, and Lucsonne and a host of loved ones and friends.
