Jay K. Porter
Jay “K” Porter, age 67, rose gently into the hands of God on Thursday, February 20, 2020 following a 14 week battle with pancreatic cancer. Jay entered this world on January 19, 1953, eclipsing for many people President Eisenhower’s State of the Union Address. Jay was the eldest son of Jack Keith and Anna Mae Porter. He developed a priceless sense of humor and a reputation for being quite a “character” over the years.
Jay was a lifetime resident of Tipton, IN and graduated from Tipton High School in the class of 1971. He served in the US Navy from 1972-1976 as a corpsman (medical officer) on nuclear submarines. Afterward he earned multiple degrees from Ivy Tech Community College in Kokomo, IN, graduating with high honor.
Jay’s lifetime career was heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair. The last few decades of his life he was a senior tech at Appel Heating and Cooling in Carmel, IN.
Jay was a member of the American Legion, which enabled him the honor of participating in Dayton’s annual Bike Week. He raised and adored Rottweilers. Jay believed in God and family. He was a patriot who could recite every detail of World War II and list the crucial events of Vietnam. Jay loved crime shows because he detested criminals…he would have endorsed John Wayne for President!
Jay loved children and insisted that not all of his came through the maternity ward.
Jay listed his grandsons as: Alexander Guy, Jacob Guy, Drew Porter, Logan Porter, and Alex Paquette. His granddaughters are: Tori Ann Porter, Brianna Porter, Elizabeth Guy, Emileen Johns, Hailey Johns and Taylor Whann.
Survivors also include his mother, Anna Mae Porter; wife, Margie Porter; siblings, Kim Porter and Jack Porter; cousins, Doris Moore, Carletta & Richard Hartzog, Steve & Jodie Porter, and Mike Porter.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Jack Keith Porter; uncles, Richard Porter & Pat Saxton; aunt, Dorothy Porter; brother, Jace Kevin Porter; and grandparents, Clarence & Doris Porter and Gail & Geneve Saxton.
