REMEMBERING Janie Mae Jackson

Janie Mae Jackson was a caring and loving mother of six children, who truly enjoyed cooking large meals on Sunday for her family and friends.

She was born on November 20, 1937, to William and Timpie Ivy Buford, in Naples, Texas. There, she attended school at George Washington Carver. She graduated and moved away to pursue her licensure and career as a cosmetologist. She moved again and met her husband, Fred Jackson.

She then continued her journey of education, enrolling in and completing a nursing degree. She worked as a nurse for several years and was employed at Hobbs Health Care.

Janie loved people and cherished her work profession. After retiring from nursing, she opened her own restaurant business, “The Soul Food Kitchen,” in Hobbs. She ran the business until she could no longer handle the work demands.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Ernest Hodge.

Janie was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Timpie Ivy Buford; her husband, Fred Jackson; a sister, two brothers; and two children, Myra Jackson, and Ruben Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Ricky Parks, Victor L. Burkley, and Terrance Jackson; one daughter, Penny Carol Jackson; one sister, Carolyn McCarter; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of several other relatives and friends.
