Janice (Kickbush) Patton, 84, of Algona, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, October 6th, 2020, at her home surrounded by family. Janice Joy Patton, daughter of Kenneth and Hilma (Hagen) Kickbush was born on April 21, 1936 in Garber, Iowa. During her childhood, Janice moved with her family to Guttenburg, Burt, and Belmond. Lastly in 1953, Janice moved to Algona and graduated from Algona High School in 1954. In 1955, Janice was united in marriage to Jerrold W. Funk and to this union her four children were born: Vicky, Bill, Barb and Mary. On June 22, 1973 Janice was united in marriage to K. Donald Patton at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. They recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. Don and Janice made their home in Algona, and Don joined her as a member of Trinity Lutheran where they have attended and served in various roles to date. Janice and Don enjoyed being greeters at church, and Janice was known to have a little skip in her step as she entered and exited the church on Sundays. Janice worked from 1969 to 1995 at the Kossuth County Courthouse in the auditor’s office. Janice loved baking!! Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren always knew where the goodies were at grandma Janice’s house. If there weren’t goodies on the kitchen counter, they knew to check the basement freezer. Janice was very organized! She labeled and color-coded her muffins and taped a “key” to the wall above the freezer, and individually wrapped and labeled her bars. Grandma always took requests! Janice’s greatest joy was her family!! Together she and Don took many trips over the years to Branson, Missouri; Mackinac Island; Door County; and lots of bus trips with friends. Janice enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren too! She made pajamas, blankets, and many other gifts for them over the years. Janice always looked forward to and loved visits from her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses, and of course, her great-grandchildren!!! The family joke though was never stop and visit between 3-4 pm because Jeopardy is on. Janice had a few sayings that will live on in our hearts and minds forever. Our family favorite is when she told us she wasn’t bossy, she just has better ideas!! When we asked how she was doing, Janice always responded, “I’m just fine!” Janice is survived by her husband Don Patton of Algona; daughter Vicky Gosmire of Algona; son Bill Funk and wife Lori of Algona; daughter Barb Buscher and husband Rick of Bartlett, IL; daughter Mary Becker and husband Rich of Algona; grandchildren Bobby Shipler, Susie (Shipler) Pedersen, Amanda (Gosmire) Friedrich, Sarah (Funk) Becker, Emily (Funk) Ludwig, Brian Funk, Dane Buscher, Sam Buscher, Cody Becker, Melissa (Becker) Detrick, Curt Becker, and Bethany (Becker) Boyd; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bueford (Joan) Kickbush of Des Moines, sister Doris Dorr of Belmond, brother Rodney (Carolyn) Kickbush of Mason City, brother-in-law Terry Patton (Mary) of St. Paul, MN; 10 nieces, 3 nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Hilma Kickbush, her in-laws Kenneth and Maxine Patton; her sister Virginia (Kickbush) Potter; two brothers in-law Larry Dorr and Thomas Potter; 4 grandchildren Mallory, Kenneth, and Michael Buscher and Lyndsey Becker; and one great-grandchild Zane Crawmer.
