Janice Meecham died after a long illness on October 1, 2011, at the age of fifty-eight.

She was born in Michigan but lived in California most of her life. She found her true home in Alameda, where she resided for the past quarter century. She loved animals, craft projects, bike riding, and laughter. Friends and family admired Janice’s wit and eternally youthful optimism. Janice worked in many different industries and for well-known institutions such as UCLA Medical Center, A&M Records, Federal Express, and Chevy’s. In her late forties she completed a bachelor’s degree at San Francisco State University and earned a special education teaching certificate. She found great joy in helping visually impaired children.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice Gonzalez, her brother, Will Meecham, and her sister-in-law, Amanda Meecham. She also leaves behind her beloved Chihuahua, Lucy.
