Janice L. Dorman, 84, of Newton died on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Newton Healthcare Center.

Janice, the daughter of William Joseph and Ida Mae (Cline) Shultice, was born on August 22, 1933 in rural Newton.  She grew up and attended schools in Newton.  Janice was united in marriage with Quentin Devore in 1950 in Illinois.  She later married Paul Metzger, Jr. in 1953 in Newton.  They had three children, Gale, Mimi, and Vicki and lived in many places throughout the United States.  In 1961, Janice was united in marriage with Carroll Dorman who adopted her children.  They made their home in Newton and Cedar Rapids before leaving Iowa to reside.  While in Newton she had worked at Pearson Drug, the Vernon Company, and later at Younkers and Fashionette.  Following Carroll’s death in 2011, Janice returned to Newton. 

Janice enjoyed going to the races, both Knoxville Raceway and NASCAR, and cheering on Jeff Gordon.  She also enjoyed collecting antiques, shopping, watching golf and westerns, and learning about the American Indian Culture.  Janice also liked to socialize with family and friends and was known as the “spunky one” in every group. 

Those left to honor Janice’s memory are her children, Gale (Petra) Dorman of Richmond, Kentucky, Mimi Jo Ramsey and her husband of Redding, California, and Vicki Sue (Kevin) Porterfield of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren, including Joshua (Jamie) Dorman of Independence, Missouri; her many great-grandchildren; sister, Nadine Stoulil of Newton; many nieces and nephews including Lynn Stoulil Abfalder of Newton; a special friend, Millie Parr of Newton; and her dog, Baby.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll Dorman in 2011; twin daughters, Jolie Ellen and Julie Lynn Dorman; and siblings, Kenneth Shultice, Marjorie Brown, Darlene Merz, and Harriet Webster.
