Janett Barren passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, at home, with her family by her side. Janett Lynn Kessey was born in Anchorage, AK, on August 25, 1955, to Alton B. and Marjorie June (Pembrook) Kessey. She lived in Alaska, Texas and Montana before her father, USAF M.Sgt. Kessey, died in a plane crash in September, 1961. Her mother moved to her hometown of Greenfield, IL, where Janett and her sister were raised. Janett graduated from Greenfield High School in 1973, and then attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University and completed her Master’s Degree and Specialist Degree from West Georgia College. She was a special education teacher for 31 years at Western Elementary in the Coweta County School System before retiring in 2013. She married John M. Barren on May 28, 1977, at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield, IL, and they have one son, Zachary Alton Barren. Janett had a lifelong love of animals and was passionate about horses from an early age. She raised and showed Appaloosas and had won multiple national and world titles. She is survived by her husband, John Barren, and son, Zach Barren, both of Newnan; a sister, Denise Kessey of Zephyrhills, FL; mother-in-law Meg Barren of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI; and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Alton and June Kessey, her grandparents, Willard and Ola Jane Pembrook, Floyd Kessey and Marie Kessey Bowen, and her step-grandfather, Willard Bowen.
