Janet C. Walker, 77, of Cassopolis, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 in Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo. She was born August 23, 1935 in Calvin Township, Michigan to Rudolph and Hope (Jeffries) Newsome.

She married her soul mate, Abraham Walker in 1971 in Michigan. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Michelle “Shelly” James; one son, Rodney Warren James; and one grandson, Alexander Walker.Janet held a variety of positions eventually becoming the owner, with her husband Abraham, of the A & J Party Store in Vandalia.

She also became the Postmaster of Vandalia. She definitely enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre and Bid Whist. She enjoyed summertime with her family at the lake reading her books. She used to water ski and loved to swim. Janet was a life member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Lt. William E. Lozier V.F.W. Post #10704, Cassopolis.

Janet will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by three sons, Edwin G. (Sheena) Johnson, III, of Cassopolis, Randy (Beth) James of Cassopolis, Adam C. Walker of Elkhart; six grandchildren, Maria (Robert, Jr.) McClenney of Kalamazoo, Edwin (Anna) Johnson, IV, of Plainwell, Janet (Eric) Steward of Kalamazoo, Levonica James of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Michelle James of Cassopolis, Brandon James of Cassopolis; and five great grandchildren.
