Jane W. Bowman, 79, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Villa Health Care East in Sherman, IL. She was born December 16, 1936, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Warren and Alice Gillespie Walker. She married James N. Bowman on August 24, 1958, in Davenport, IA and he survives.
She is also survived by four children, Carol Jane Bowman (Glen Wilson) of St. Paul, MN, Julie Beth Lussier (Richard) of Louisville, TX, Susan Lynn Bryant (Randy) of Springfield, and David James Bowman (Tiffany) of Patchogue, NY; five grandchildren, Nick Throop Sandercock (Stephen) of Springfield, Morgan and Matt Throop, both of Springfield, and Sarah and Benjamin Lussier, both of Louisville, TX; and a sister, Mary Alice Basmann of Flagstaff, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Walker.
Following high school in Davenport, IA, Jane received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University. She first taught GED classes for military personnel from 1959 to 1961 while her husband served in the military. After relocating to Jacksonville, Jane taught third grade at North School for several years for School District #117.
Jane was a member of First Christian Church, Monday Conversation Club, Household Science Club, and South Inn Morganettes Home Extension. An avid musician, she played the french horn with the Jacksonville Symphony for several years. Her love of gardening led her to earn her Master Gardener designation from the University of Illinois Home Extension. Jane also enjoyed sharing her love of hiking, biking, camping, and boating with her husband.
