Jane R. Ginsburg, 92, of Danbury, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 24, 2022. She was the loving wife of Philip Ginsburg and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Jane was born on August 11, 1929, the youngest of three daughters of childbirth pioneer Dr. Isidor Rosenthal and Suzanne (Katz) Rosenthal of South Norwalk. Jane attended Bryant College and moved with her young family into their current home in Southern Danbury in 1960 when Phil opened Liggett Rexall which became the biggest and busiest drugstore in Danbury for 35 years.

When Jane’s two boys were young, it was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. Even by the standards of the era, Jane was a remarkable wife and mother, always ready and eager with a snack or meal whenever her sons and husband came home. She cared deeply for her family and was enormously proud of them. The exceptionally strong and playful love between Jane and Phil kept her in good spirits, especially during the last five years while she was confined to a bed in their home. They experienced over 25,000 goodnight kisses during their 70 years together. Like tennis partners touching rackets after a point—win or lose, they would kiss no matter how the day went. Jane had a passion for movies and popular songs. Jane even won a call-in radio contest by identifying song fragments. Phil and Jane often went to see plays on Broadway. And while at home she would play on the piano many of the songs she heard.

Jane is survived by her devoted husband, Philip; and their two sons, Jeff Ginsburg and his wife Lu Li of Sherman, and Gary Ginsburg and his wife, Pam Seri Ginsburg of Las Vegas. Jane is also survived by three grandchildren, Jordan Ginsburg of Marina del Rey, CA, Alexandra Ginsburg Khalifa of Las Vegas, and Shana Ginsburg of San Diego, as well as two great-grandsons, Roxas Khalifa and Raiden Khalifa. Jane is also survived by six nieces and nephews and their ten children.

Jane was predeceased by her parents and sisters Gertrude R. Bloome of Great Neck, NY and Miriam R. Lepofsky of Westport, CT; and also a beloved niece Carol “Carsin” Bloome of Manhattan, NY.

The family sends special thanks to all her home care aides from the Danbury Nurses Registry who were especially gentle, caring, and devoted.
