Troy – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jane F. (Massaro) Verrastro of Troy on Sunday, December 16, 2018.  Jane died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Jane was born in Troy, NY on January 19, 1924, the daughter of Frank A. and Lillian Massaro.   She grew up on Troy’s East Side, and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1943 and Mildred Elley Secretarial School.  Upon graduation, Jane worked for the NYS Department of Youth in Albany until shortly after her marriage.

Our Mom married our Dad, Joseph F. Verrastro on October 18, 1947 in St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy.  In addition to raising five children together, Jane was involved in the operation of the family business, Prospect Park Pharmacy.  Jane had a competitive spirit and enjoyed participating in several bowling leagues and playing cards with different groups of friends over the years, especially her Wednesday afternoon friends.  She was an avid bocce player throughout her life and loved a good challenge.  She was a member of the Troy Club, the former St. Francis de Sales Women’s Club and most recently, the East Side Seniors.  She was a long-time member of the St. Michael the Archangel parish community.

Jane and Joe traveled extensively in the United States, Caribbean, and Europe, including several trips to Italy and was happy to share stories of her experiences with anyone who asked.  Her most favorite trips however were the annual family vacations to Cape Cod.

She was the most selfless person and gave her all to raising her children and was known within the circle of family and friends for her happy nature, her infectious smile, caring ways, and grateful heart.  Jane was recognized for always having a sparkle in her eye and her love of life.  She enjoyed hosting get togethers for family and friends in her home.

Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph in 2012.  She is survived by her children, Donna Stockdale (late Francis), Joanne (Frank) Skpowski, Susan Verrastro (David Burford), Joseph (Janice) Verrastro Jr., Nancy (Kevin) Ryan.  Also, her grandchildren, Marc Skpowski, Kristen Skpowski, and Nicholas (Dana) Ryan, Gregory Ryan (Megan McLoughlin), Christopher Ryan and the newest light of her life her great grandson Landon Joseph Ryan.

She was the best mother ever and modeled her great faith to all, and so we rejoice that she has joined our Dad in heaven.
