Jane Emily Penrod, age 83, of Salem, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012. She was born November 26, 1928 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Marie (Marron) Nelson. She was a 1947 graduate of Louisville High School, 1951 graduate of Otterbein College, and received a Masters Degree of Library Science and English, at Kent State University in 1972. A resident of this area since 1957, Jane was a member of the Salem Democrats and served as secretary and treasurer, and worked at the voting polls for 25 years. Jane had worked for Lease Drug and McCulloch’s Department Store. Her husband Robert L. Penrod, whom she married October 3, 1951, preceded her in death May 3, 1970. Her parents; an infant daughter; and brothers, Charles and Jack Nelson, also preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters, Nancy Penrod of Sebring and Chris (Tom) Wright of Salem; a brother, Walter Nelson of Bloomington; granddaughter, Emily (Brad) Davis; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Jake Davis.
