Jan Peebler, 85, died peacefully on April 12, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Peebler was born Janice Vee Clark in Winterset on February 11, 1936, to Vernon and Myrtle (Cessna) Clark.

She attended Winterset High School where she excelled in drama, band and choir, earning the prestigious Arion Award for music. She continued her education at Drake University in Des Moines, IA, graduating in 1958 with a BA in education. While at Drake she continued her love of music, was vice president of her sorority, and proudly served as Homecoming Queen. She had a blind date with the “most popular teacher” award winner, Dick Peebler that same year and kept a low profile until the two married a week after graduation.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Jeff) Bassarear of Urbandale, Mike (Kellie) Peebler of Winterset and Sandie (Jeff) Richards of Urbandale; 10 grandchildren, Brian Niblo, Jaime (Nolan) Blue, Joseph (Swan) Senger, Shannon Peebler, Sami (Colt) Eyerly, Andrew Richards, Ricky Peebler, Ally Richards, Austin Peebler, Matthew Richards; cousins Judy (David) Johns and their families of Dallas, TX and Jill Cessna and her family of Portland, OR; and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband with whom she’s longed to join… Memorials may be made to Drake University for the benefit of the Richard G. Peebler Scholarship or Suncrest Hospice.
