James W. “Pete” Garletts, 88, of Tunnelton, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Preston Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 10, 1927, in Connellsville, PA, a son of the late Smith and Florence Davis Biggins Garletts.

James was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather. He was a coal miner at Island Creek and a proud member of the UMWA. He enjoyed hunting, watching football and western movies. James was Methodist by faith but had been attending the Mill Chapel United Brethren in Christ.

He is survived by his two sons, Ronald Garletts of Navarre, OH and Richard Garletts and wife, Jackie of Kingwood; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Martin and husband, Reverend James of Matewan, WV and Kathy L. Bryan and husband, Keith of Fairmont; three brothers, Donald, Arthur and David “Buck” Garletts; five sisters, Helen Phillips, Olive Everett, Flo Pirlo, Joyce Petrilla, and Jeanne Pirlo; nine grandchildren, sixteen, great grandchildren and five, great great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret A. Miller Garletts, his sister, Dorothy Pratt, his grandchild, Becky Kegley and a great granddaughter, Autumn Kirby.
