James William Brown, Jr., 80, of Middletown, husband of Annie L. (Green) Brown, passed away on Tuesday, September 8th at Water’s Edge Center for Health in Middletown. Born in St. George, South Carolina, he was the son of the late James W. and Carrie (Clayton) Brown. James lived in Middletown all of his life, was a veteran serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 206. He worked as a machinist for Stone Container Company in Portland retiring after forty years. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, James A. Brown and his wife, Arlene of Willimantic, Rev. John L. Brown and his wife, Shirley and Nathaniel Brown and his wife, LaVern, all of Middletown; one daughter, Portia Hemmingway Crump and her husband Jerome of Richmond, VA; a brother, Johnnie L. Brown of Brooklyn, NY; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Magdeline Hart.
