James W. “Jim” Gozzard, age 75, of Morehead, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born on June 1, 1945, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Lawrence Gozzard and Marian Mae Millward Gozzard.
Jim is survived by three children: Hays Gozzard, Heather Spears and husband Keith Spears, and Egan Colbert, all of Lexington; a brother, Larry Gozzard of Nokomis, Florida, and a sister, Beverly Van Hook of Tampa, Florida.
Jim came to Morehead in 1965 to attend Morehead State College (now University).
Jim was an avid vocalist who sang barbershop harmony for over 50 years. He founded two quartets, the Foothill Four and the Tru-Tones in Morehead and also performed solo renditions of the national anthem at MSU basketball games and at Rupp Arena. He was a member of several choruses.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, having served two Army hitches from Sep 66-Sep 68 and Sep 72-75. He was a combat soldier in the Republic of South Vietnam from Aug 67-Aug 68 and an Army medic from 1972-1975. He was a member of Morehead American Legion Post 126 for 25 years and a proud member of the Honor Guard for 15 years.
