James Timothy McManus, age 67 of Scaggs Lane, Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born May 9, 1949, in Morehead, he was a son of the late Joseph Henry McManus and Pauline ‘Polly’ Messer McManus.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Lois Sewell McManus, whom he wed June 24, 1972; four children, James Michael McManus of Hillsboro, Krista Finch (Daniel) of Georgetown, Starley McManus of Mt. Sterling, and Polly Sanning (Joe) of Lexington; and three grandchildren, Ethan and Aidyn Sanning and Lillian Finch.

Other survivors include five brothers and sisters, Faye McManus of Mt. Vernon, Rita Porter (Roger) of Morehead, Sally Trent (Gary) of Morehead, Pat McManus of Irvine, and Kathy Neal (Chuck) of Richmond, as well as nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by beloved nephews, Jeff Porter and Shawn McManus.

Tim was born and raised in Rowan County. After graduating from Rowan County High School, he continued working at Allen’s IGA. Uncle Sam called and he completed his training at Fort Knox and at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He was stationed in Bamberg, Germany, where he worked as a radio teletype operator and developed a love for German food and beer.
