James Russell Vereen, 50, of 72 North First Street, Meriden, passed away on Friday, March 7th at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Born in Florence, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Barttel and Jesse (Vereen) Blake Davis and had lived in Middletown most of his life moving to Meriden in 1989. James worked for Cooper-Atkins Corp. in Middlefield for over 20 years. He loved sports and was an avid Red Sox fan. The family would like to acknowledge the Weiss Hospice Unit at Middlesex Hospital for all that they did for James. He is survived by three brothers, George M. Blake, Sr. of Meriden and Barry and George Barttel of SC; ten sisters, Julia Blake of Meriden, Linda Blake of Middletown, Sharmease Blake of Hartford, Sheila Blake of Key West, FL, Wanda Jenkins, Maybell Brooks, Cynthia White, Barbara Hardeen, Georgia Lee Barttel and Hope Speights all of SC; and a host of aunts, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Lester Blake, Jr.
