James Rodney Stanis, 82, of Newtown, CT., died peacefully at home on January 1, 2022.

He was the loving husband of 60 years to Mary (Vallerie) Stanis.

Jim was a warm, loving man, who loved babies above everything else. He was also a bit of a prankster, he took great delight in surprising and joking. If he made you laugh or shake your head he was winning! He was absolutely happiest when he was surrounded by his family.

James was born September 26, 1939 in Canton Mississippi.

Jim graduated Fairfield Prep. and Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics. Upon graduating, he entered the U. S. Air Force Officer Training School. Jim taught Electronics and Laser Technology in the Air Force and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.

When he left the Air Force, with an honorable discharge, he returned home to Norwalk, CT, with his growing family. He took a position as an Aerospace Engineer, with Norden Systems, where he worked to develop laser technologies for the A6-E Intruder and the F-14 Tomcat fighter jets. While working at Norden Systems, Jim continued his education achieving his MBA from UCONN. He was widely traveled as international envoy, sharing technological advancements with Americas allies.

Jim moved to Weston, CT in 1969 where he and Mary raised their seven children.

In 1985 the Stanis Family relocated to Bethel, CT where they lived for the next 30 years. After his retirement from Norden Systems, Jim bought and operated Bethel TV until its closing.

Jim and Mary tried to retire to North Fort Myers, FL in 2015 but after five years they came home to Newtown CT to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Mr. Stanis is survived by his wife Mary Vallerie Stanis, as well as their children, Mary V. (May) Schaefer, of Newtown, CT, James R. (Jamie) Stanis Jr. and his partner Patricia of Shelburne, VT, Robyn L. Manere and her husband Robert, of Bethel, CT, Robert J. (Bobby) Stanis and his wife Stephanie of Cape Coral, FL, Holly A.

Mr. Stanis was predeceased by his mother, Hazel Stanizeski, his father, Wallace (Bud) Stanizeski, his brothers John Stanizeski and Gary Stanizeski all of Norwalk, CT., and a sister Mildred (Millie) Nelson. He was also predeceased by a son Michael Stanis.
