James Richard “Jim” Thornton II, 77, of Greensburg, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was also a loving son, brother, uncle and friend to those that knew him. He was born April 4, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late James Richard Thornton and Thelma Jane (Siegel) Thornton. Jim had been employed by U.S. Steel, USX Corporation and USX Federal Credit for a combined 45+years.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife Pat and traveling together to many places around the globe including his favorite destination of Hawaii. He loved being with his children and grandchildren, teaching them things and enjoying family time together.

Jim enjoyed sharing his love of hunting and the outdoors with family and friends. Over the years he invited many hunters to join him at deer camp, and most of them were able to get their first buck while hunting together with Jim.  He was an Eagle Scout who inspired his grandson to follow his achievement.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia (Roberts) Thornton; his sons, JR Thornton, John Thornton and his wife Anna; grandchildren Lauren, Hannah, Courtney, Steven, Joelle and Jacob; his siblings Paul Thornton and his wife Teri, Robert Thornton, and Sandy Mazza; nieces and nephews Jonna, Jenny, Tauni, Tatum, Monica and Anthony; his Aunt Patricia Walt and cousins Eric, Jason, David and Beth.
