Obituary of James R. Sullivan

SULLIVAN, James R. Jr. “Gus” of High Springs, Florida, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He was 60 years old. 1 Timothy 4:7-8 reads, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; therefore laid up me is the crown of righteousness.” James R. Sullivan, Jr., was born on September 8, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan to James R. Sr. and Rita M. (Jankowski) Sullivan. Gus was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Frances Brothers School in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps., where he earned an award for being an excellent marksmen. Gus was always quoted as saying, “What sustains me is that I’m a brother and a Marine, this is what keeps me going.” He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, above all Gus loved spending time with his family and he was proud of the Sullivan name.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, James R. Sr. (Joan) Sullivan, of Au Gres, MI; five brothers and one sister: Daniel (Virginia) Sullivan of Chandler, AZ, Terrance (Jill) Sullivan of Bartlett, TN, Michael (Pearl) Sullivan of Houston, TX, Bradley Sullivan of Jacksonville, FL, Christopher (Kirsten) Sullivan of Lutz, FL, and Maureen O’Neill of St. Ignace, MI. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Gus was preceded in death by his mother, Rita M. Sullivan and sister-in-law, Terry M. Sullivan.

: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.
