Jim Foster, 90, of Guntersville, AL and formerly of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Shepherds Cove Hospice in Albertville, AL.

He was born September 30, 1918 in Norman County, MN; the son of Richard Parkin and Sylvia Roney Foster . He married Mary F. Daniel on October 10, 1945 at Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by two sons, James R. Foster Jr. (wife, Susan) of Grant, AL and Steven Foster (wife, Deean) of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Andrew Foster of Chicago and Sara Foster of Jacksonville; two nieces; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Peterson.

A licensed plumber by trade, Mr. Foster was employed by Earl Walters Plumbing for 31 years prior to owning and operating Foster Plumbing and Heating for 18 years prior to his retirement. He served with the Army Air Force as a flight engineer during WWII in the European Theater and was awarded a Silver Star and eight battle stars for his service overseas. He was a member of the Jacksonville American Legion Post 279 and Plumbers Union Local 137.

In years past, he attended Brooklyn United Methodist Church and was a member of United Commercial Travelers, Golden K Kiwanis Club, and active in Boy Scouting where he served as a Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and Unit Commissioner.
