James “Phillip” Thompson, age 56, of Newnan, GA. passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home in the care of loved ones. He was born October 23, 1957 to the late James Leon Thompson and Margaret Summers Thompson. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a beloved sister Bonita Thompson. Phillip was a graduate from Campbell High School and continued his education and training in the trucking industry to which he loved and devoted himself for a career lasting more than 30 years. He was affectionately known by many titles, “Phil”, “Po Boy”, “Sugarbritches”, “Daddy”, “Paw Paw” and “Papa”. He was an avid Georgia Tech fan, loved Nascar, local dirt track racing and a good cup of coffee. He was a “Team Player” in all aspects of his life and loved sharing his activities and experiences with others. As he battled with disease during his last months, he was an inspiration to all with his will power, strength and can do attitude. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be lovingly embraced in our memories. Phillip is survived by his wife, Paula Dupree Thompson; daughters, Brooke (Peter) Childers, Dana Allison Thompson, Caitlin Thompson; grandchildren, Devon Childers, Cameron Childers, Jacob Childers, Kylie Thompson, Martin Harings; sister, Susan (Gordy) Duncan; numerous nieces and nephews; special family friend and caretaker, Brandy Williams; and his beloved dog, Toby.
