James P. Jacobsen, 92, of St. Paul died Friday, September 7, 2007 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Mr. Jacobsen was born March 23, 1915 in Dannebrog to Jens P. and Louise E. (Christensen) Jacobsen.

James was raised and attended school in Dannebrog, graduating from Dannebrog High School in 1933. James first attended Dana College in Blair and later Washburn University in Topeka, KS.

In 1937, he became a partner with his father in the operation of the Jacobsen Mortuary, dry goods and grocery store in Dannebrog.

On March 24, 1940, he was united in marriage to Wauneta Metro in Grand Island.

In 1982, he and his wife retired and moved to Grand Island. In 2002, Jim moved to the Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul. He moved to the swing bed unit at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul in October, 2004.

He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in St. Paul, the St. Paul Masonic Lodge #82 AF & Am, Royal Arch Masons #11 of Grand Island, Knights Templar of Grand Island, Tehama Temple Shrine of Hastings, and the U.C.T. #134 of Grand Island.

He was a former member of the Big Oak Leaf Lodge #387 of I.O.O.F. of Dannebrog. He had served on the Dannebrog Village and School Boards. He was a past member of the St. Paul City Council.

Jim enjoyed fishing, gardening, and yard work. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed duck and goose hunting.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Ruthie Jacobsen of St. Paul; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Gaylord Mickelsen of Grand Island; one sister, Lois Ann Kuska of Fairmont, NE; six granddaughters; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wauneta who died on July 4, 2003 and a sister, Genevieve Hoiberg.
