Jim Osborne, age 72, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
James Arthur Osborne was born in Estherville, Iowa on December 16, 1946, to Duane and Alma (Vagle) Osborne. The family moved to Spirit Lake where Jim attended school and graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1965. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College and was later employed at Village East and Tweeters as a cook. Due to failing health, he had to retire. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Jim loved the outdoors. He could be seen walking all around Spirit Lake. He enjoyed fishing, reading, crosswords, and movies. Jim was a trivia buff with an amazing memory. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July of 2018. After a brave fight, he succumbed to the illness on January 9th.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Russell and Steven. He is survived by siblings, Robert (Mary Ann) Osborne of Wilmot, SD, Annette (David) Schaeffer of Spencer, Bill (Diane) Osborne of Milford, Dennis Osborne of Mesa, AZ, and Nancy Ranum of Lennox, SD; and 18 nieces and nephews.
