James “Jim” Smith, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away after an extended illness on December 29, 2019. He was born on September 17, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, was raised in Anderson, Indiana and graduated from Anderson High School in 1955, and eventually started his life in Indianapolis with his wife.
He served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He was a computer programmer and worked as a photographer throughout his life but also enjoyed wine making, classical and jazz music, and reading books. He was a parishioner at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Indianapolis.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Diane (Calabria) Smith; children, Peggy Hicks, Marty (Kathy) Smith, and Karen Smith; four grandsons and three granddaughters; and four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters. Also surviving is his sister Maureen (Ralph) Jewell, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Marguerite (Hogg) Smith; son, Brian Smith, and son-in-law, Anthony Hicks.
