Doctor (Colonel) James (Jim) Leslie Wyatt Jr. passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020. He was 97 years of age.

James Leslie Wyatt, Jr. was born in Taylor, Texas on May 8, 1922 to James L. and Essie Barnhill Wyatt. Dr. Wyatt was a long time resident of San Antonio and Boerne. In his youth he attended Laura Steele Elementary, Page Junior High, Brackenridge High School and Trinity University. He also was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder in six congregations in the U.S. and overseas. Colonel Wyatt was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans organizations.

During World War II he served in the U. S. Army Texas National Guard and the U.S. Army Enlisted Reserve Corps. After he graduated from Baylor University College of Dentistry, he established a private dental practice in Mason, Texas. He began his United States Air Force career as a regular commissioned dental officer with the rank of a first lieutenant in 1950 and served over 35 years as an “A” rated, board certified prosthodontist and command dental surgeon. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation medal for service in the Korean Conflict, and numerous other awards and decorations. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he joined the faculty of San Antonio College where he served as Department Chairman of the Dental and Medical Assisting programs for fourteen years, retiring as a tenured professor in 1992. He and his wife “Aunt Mildred” owned and operated a Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio at 265 N. Main Street until her retirement in 1998. He continued doing business as “Uncle Jim’s Rockers” from their home until 2006.

Dr. Wyatt is survived by his son James Leslie Wyatt III and his wife Jeanne of Dallas; his daughters and sons-in-law Sarah and Jim Layman of Irving, Judy and David Woodard of Central S.C., and Amy and John McFee of Boerne; eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Dr. Wyatt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred; his infant daughter, Mary Jane;  and a sister, Margie Bess Thompson.
