Mr. James “Jimmy” Preston Champion, age 78, of Huguley, Alabama passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021.
He was born in Langdale, Alabama on May 19th, 1942 to the late Willard and Evie Maddox Champion.
Jimmy began working for the West Point Pepperell Service Center when he was a teenager and retired as a company welder after 47 years of service.
Jimmy was a talented welder and metalsmith whose metal works can still be seen in various places across the West Point, Valley, and Lanett areas. Two of his more visible and well-known pieces are the design and fabrication of the steeple on the City Hall of Valley and the iron sign at the entrance of Langdale Cemetery. He also enjoyed designing and building wood burning stoves and heaters.
In his younger years, he enjoyed bird hunting, rabbit hunting and fishing with his father.
He was an avid University of Alabama football fan.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Irvin Champion; children, Rowdy, Jeff and Lisa; 4 grandchildren.
