James M. Long, Jr., 78, of Wakefield, died on Monday, February 26, 2024, in Newport News, Virginia.He was predeceased by his parents, James M. Long, Sr., and Addie Norfleet Long.He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia Prine Long, three children, Margie A. Walker, Lisa L. Seward (Tony), and James M. Long, III. Seven grandchildren, Rhyne A. Seward, Christopher S. Walker, Jeremy L. Seward (Lauren), James M. Long, IV (Haley), Matthew J. Walker (Madeline), Jacob E. Walker (Madison), and Adam W. Seward. Four great-grandchildren, Axyl, Arabella, Kinsley, and Claire. A sister, Jennifer L. Snyder, a niece and several great nieces and nephews.A life-long resident of Wakefield, Jim was a member of Living Hope Community Fellowship, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for the adult class. He was a devoted father and grandfather and could be found at all of his grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities. He was dedicated to church and community, making himself available for numerous activities. His unwavering faith led him to serve youth ministries in several churches.He retired from Federal Bureau of Prisons and Prince George Electric. Jim was a talented and well- respected mechanic; this was his profession and passion from the time that he was 14 years old. He was always willing to pass his knowledge to his son and grandsons.Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, family and community.
