James Jackson Shippy, 92, formerly of Davis, IL, passed away on April 23, 2022, at Manor Court in Liberty Village, Freeport, IL after a brief illness. Jack (as he was known by his friends and family) was born on May 6, 1929, to Leland L. Shippy, Sr., and Nellie E. (nee Blackmore) Shippy in Freeport, IL. He was a 1947 graduate of Dakota High School and later attended Rockford College in Rockford, IL. Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany.
Jack worked for decades in the field of bookkeeping/accounting and retired from the Illinois Agriculture Auditing Association in 1989. He was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Mary’s/St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Jack enjoyed traveling and went on many trips over the years with friends and family.
He is survived by his brothers Eugene Shippy of Pecatonica and Dennis (Mary) Shippy of Gratiot, Wisconsin, his sister Mary Shippy, sister-in-law Barbara, both of Freeport, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Leland L. Shippy Jr. and Donald L. Shippy Sr., and his sisters-in-law Beatrice (Leland) and Beth (Eugene).
